Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

28 brands affected · Generic SAE J2012 description.

Key terms: Bank 2: the side of the engine containing cylinder 2 · SAE J2012: the standard generic code list · Powertrain: engine, transmission and emissions

1What it means in plain English

This range covers vehicle speed, idle and oil-pressure control, charging-system voltage, and brake-switch circuits.

2Common causes

  1. Carbon build-up in the throttle body
  2. Faulty idle air control valve
  3. Faulty vehicle speed sensor
  4. Faulty charging system or weak battery
  5. Wiring or connector fault

3Can I drive?

Caution · drive with care

Codes in this range include oil-pressure, brake-switch and charging-system voltage faults. If the oil-pressure warning light is on, stop the engine as soon as it is safe and do not drive until it is diagnosed. If the battery or charging warning light is on, drive straight to a workshop: the car can stall when the battery runs flat. For any other P05 code, have the car diagnosed promptly rather than continuing to drive.

This page gives general information. It is not professional advice. For a definite diagnosis and a repair quote, ask a qualified mechanic to inspect the car.

Legend: SAE is the generic J2012 description; Brand is text taken from that manufacturer’s data. Manufacturer rows keep the wording and language of the source data, and non-English text is tagged so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
