Engine coolant level warning

1What it means in plain English
The engine computer has detected that the engine coolant level is low. Low coolant can quickly lead to overheating.
2Common causes
- Coolant leak (hose, radiator, water pump or head gasket)
- Air pocket in the cooling system after a repair
- Faulty coolant level sensor
- Coolant loss through the heater matrix or expansion tank
- Wrong coolant or water only, causing evaporation or boiling
3Can I drive?
Do not ignore a coolant-level warning. Stop safely if the temperature gauge climbs or a red warning appears; top up only when the engine is cold and have the leak found before driving further. Overheating can destroy the engine.
